German fireworks are becoming increasingly popular: in traffic jams from the border and long lines at the shops – Inland

Taking fireworks in Germany is becoming increasingly popular. Hundreds of Dutch people drive from Saturday to Tuesday from far and wide to German places in the border region to start fireworks.

From the border and back to the Netherlands they end up in a kilometer-long traffic jam and once at the points of sale they have to connect in long lines for the shop doors. But that is no problem, says Janny Kok, who came from Friesland with her family: “We will just make it a fun day.”

More spectacular

The arrows and pots are much cheaper than in the Netherlands, because the regulations in Germany are much less strict. The German fireworks are more spectacular than the Dutch ones due to their composition. Retailers can also stunt fireworks in Germany. “And it is also much safer, because the pots are more stable,” says Kok.

The family expects to spend around 75 euros at the Aldi in Kranenburg, just across the border at Nijmegen. That is a pain, because a father who came from Zwijndrecht with three teenagers is paying 699.15 euros. ,, And just as soon as we go to another firework shop for the evening’s hit: a firework cake of 280 euros. It provides a 160-second spectacle. “

Maximum 25 kilos

The Zwijndrechters have reserved that ‘Funke Mei Banfa’ via the internet. All German supermarkets and private fireworks sellers have Dutch websites for orders. “This has been done remarkably much more often this year,” says supermarket manager Udo Fissner. “Our most beautiful and most expensive boxes are already completely sold out via the internet.”

Formally, fireworks buyers can take a maximum of 25 kilos of fireworks to the Netherlands. This must be officially reported in advance to the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate, but that never happens in practice. Inspection and police do random checks along the entire border. Cars and trailers that seem to be very fully loaded are set aside. That can result in a fine of 1500 euros. And the fireworks are seized.
