It is considered the most beautiful film festival in Germany, as the venue on the Ludwigshafen Parkinsel has its own charm. Celebrities in the film business also like it here, which is why they like to travel to the open-air festival. After a corona-related narrow-gauge edition, 74 films will again be shown on the island in the Rhine from September 1 to 19, 2021, 17 of which are competing for the film art award. Advance sales from August 9th.
Joachim Król opens the festival
That 17th Festival of German Films Ludwigshafen am Rhein presents 74 productions, 17 of which are competing for the Film Art Prize, which is awarded in three categories. The festival will open with “Finally Widower – Forever Young” by Anca Miruna Lăzărescu – a prime role for Joachim Król.
Prevented radio officer Claudia Michelsen
This year’s prizes for acting goes to the actress Claudia Michelsen, for the artistic director Dr. Michael Kötz “one of the great actresses in German film, a master of her subject!” Michelsen actually wanted to become a radio officer in the GDR merchant fleet, it is said, probably because she would have been able to get out into the world that way. But her friend Christine, daughter of Rolf Hoppe, convinced her to go to the Ernst Busch drama school – this great talent factory in the GDR. Pretty soon she satnd in front of the camera.
Award for Ulrich Mattes
“After no prizes could be awarded last year due to corona, we are proud and happy to be able to award Ulrich Matthes, who was already a guest on Parkinsel, with a prize this year,” said Artistic Director Dr. Michael Kötz. Matthes has been working at theaters across Germany since the 1980s, collecting one theater award after another. He has also been in front of the camera regularly since the 1990s.
