“German Film “Alaska” Takes Top Prize at Neisse Film Festival 2023″

The German film “Alaska” by Max Gleschinski received the main prize of 10,000 euros at the Neisse Film Festival in the border triangle of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. The jury had to choose between three feature films from each of these three countries.

“The film takes us on a journey through the ups and downs of human experiences and feelings. Thanks to the talent of the filmmaker, we are able to watch the characters as they struggle to discover the truth about themselves and the truth about their relationships with other people. The film is excellent proof that cinema made for cinema is not dead yet.” Linda Pöppel was honored as best actress for her performance in “Tamara”.

The Polish film “Lombard” (pawn shop) was awarded the best documentary film. Director Lukasz Kowalski received prize money of 5,000 euros. The prize for the best short film (..000 euros) went to the German film “Volver al Sur” by Sofia Ayala.

The festival awarded an honorary prize to Damian Kocur for the film “Chleb i sol” (Bread and Salt). “In his debut, which is cast exclusively with amateur actors, the director manages to get to the heart of the attitude towards life of young people in the provinces and at the same time the consequences of intolerance,” it said.

In its 20th edition, the film festival showed around 90 productions in three competitions and various series. In addition, various events complete the program. This time the festival dealt with the political and social legacy of the former Soviet Union. A highlight was the performance of the Russian and Kremlin-critical band Pussy Riot in the open air at the cold store in Görlitz.
