Brenan Wins Final Stage,Vērensšelds Crowned Champion of the German Tour

magdeburg,Germany – British cyclist Matthew Brenan of Team Visa/Lease A Bike secured a thrilling sprint finish in the final stage of the German Tour on Sunday,covering a challenging 163.7 kilometers with two laps around Magdeburg. Norwegian Sulfur Vērenšeld (Uno-X Mobility) finished second, followed closely by Italian Jonathan milan of Lidl-Trek.A remarkable eleven riders crossed the finish line in a tight pack, all clocking in at three hours, 29 minutes, and 21 seconds.
The overall victory, however, belonged to Vērensšelds, who finished 25 seconds ahead of Brenan in the general classification. Belgian Wouts van Arts (visa/Lease a Bike) rounded out the podium, conceding 33 seconds to the champion.
Latvian Riders in the Mix
Latvian cyclists also made their mark on the race. Alexei Neiland, riding for Israel – Premier Tech, finished the final stage just six seconds behind the leading group, a commendable performance. Simultaneously occurring, Krists Liepiņš of Q36.5 faced a more challenging day, finishing 36 seconds behind the leaders and placing 85th nearly 25 minutes behind the winner.
Neiland ultimately secured 11th place in the overall standings,finishing 55 seconds behind Vērensšelds. liepiņš concluded the tour in 85th position.
“It was a very fast and technical final stage,” said a team representative for Visa/Lease A Bike.
“Matthew’s sprint was perfectly timed, and Wouts’ consistent performance throughout the tour secured him a well-deserved podium finish.”
Last year’s champion, Danish cyclist Mads Pedersen, did not repeat his success this year, but the 2024 German Tour delivered a new and exciting victor in Sulfur Vērensšelds.
