German Duo Sonnenschein & Datko Claim Victory at I Feel Slovenia Li-Ning Future Series 2025
Ljubljana, Slovenia – Aaron Sonnenschein and Marvin datko have secured their first international tournament victory, triumphing at the I Feel Slovenia Li-Ning Future Series 2025. The German pair overcame a challenging draw, including a win against the top-seeded Swiss duo, to claim the men’s doubles title, marking a meaningful milestone for the rising DBV (German Badminton Association) players.
The path to the final proved demanding. Sonnenschein/Datko began with a confident opening win before facing a formidable test in round two: Yann Oreu and Minh Quang Pham of Switzerland, the tournament’s number one seeds. In a high-quality match, the Germans prevailed 26-24, 21-23, 21-15, establishing a foundation for their eventual success.
“I think we had one of the most difficult draws that you could have had at the tournament and we could still prevail. And we have the feeling that we have made a clear step forward,” Sonnenschein stated following the victory.
The duo continued their strong performance, securing two straight-set victories to reach the final. There, they faced the Dutch pairing of Noah Haase and Joep Strooper in a competitive match, ultimately winning 21-14, 22-20.
This victory is particularly notable for the newly formed partnership, wich solidified its lineup at the FZ Forza Future Series Nouvelle-Aquitaine 2025. The triumph serves as confirmation of their strong form and represents another step forward in their development.
Beyond the doubles success, the German team demonstrated promising performances in the singles events. Ella Neve and Katharina Nilges both reached the round of 16 in women’s singles, while justin Seibel impressed with a strong quarter-final showing, ultimately falling to England’s Sid Palkalkal 16-21, 19-21.
“The tournament went very well, even if it was not enough for a medal. My first game was almost the hardest, but when it was won, I came into a flow and the next games felt very good. In the quarter-finals, my opponent better controlled and ultimately earned,” Seibel commented. luis Pongratz was eliminated in round two.Full tournament results are available at the Badminton World Federation website.
