German AIDS Foundation increases awareness and health promotion / New logo and changed appearance reflect the further development of the work

Bonn – HIV and AIDS are still not curable. Every day, more than 4,600 people worldwide are newly infected with the HI virus. As with the new type of corona virus, there are also effective measures to protect yourself against infection with the HI virus. That is why the German AIDS Foundation will increasingly fund projects in the future that inform, educate, strengthen prevention and facilitate access to medical care. The aim is to promote the health of people who are at high risk of infection for HIV, AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). At the same time, new infections are avoided and HIV-positive people who do not yet know about their infection are given access to diagnosis and treatment. “The top priority for success against infectious diseases, as the corona pandemic shows us, is: education, prevention, testing, adherence to therapy and participation. It is precisely these areas that will determine the work of the German AIDS Foundation in the future,” explains Dr. Kristel Degener, Executive Chairwoman of the Foundation.

The German AIDS Foundation campaigns for health and education and works against the discrimination and stigmatization of HIV-positive people. In the future, it will therefore increasingly fund national and international projects for prevention, health maintenance and health promotion in the field of HIV, AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STI). Because: Anyone who is involved in the field of HIV and AIDS must keep reminding them of the necessary protection against infection, but also take care of the illnesses and problems that accompany the HIV infection or that can favor a new infection. In addition to many sexually transmitted infections, this also includes hepatitis diseases and tuberculosis, but also fear, high psychological stress and the experience of exclusion. For these reasons, the foundation continues to promote the participation and integration of HIV-positive people.

Prejudices against HIV positive people are still widespread today. For over 30 years, the red ribbon has been used and understood as a symbol of solidarity with HIV-positive people and people with AIDS. Solidarity, as evidenced by the way society deals with the Corona crisis, is more important than ever. In order to underline its importance and to promote acceptance and courageous advocacy for the rights of infected people, the red ribbon is an integral part of the communication of the German AIDS Foundation: www.aids-stiftung.de.

The German AIDS Foundation has been supporting people with HIV and AIDS in need since 1987. The tasks of the foundation have grown steadily since then. However, the past few decades have also shown that commitment to the HI virus requires staying power. The new, strong blue in the design of the German AIDS Foundation therefore stands for the necessary endurance, reliability, rationality and strength. It complements the color red from the beginning of the foundation, which continues to stand for energy, emotions and passion for a healthy, decent life.

The foundation is financed primarily from private funds. It receives no ongoing public funding and is dependent on voluntary work. The realignment of the content and the new design would not have been possible without the support of the volunteer committee members of the German AIDS Foundation. Special thanks go to Helmut Andreas Hartwig and Arndt Hartwig, initiators of the Bonn Opera Gala and members of the board of trustees. They helped set the processes in motion and supported them from the start with their specialist expertise. The German AIDS Foundation also thanks the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the German AIDS Foundation, Prof. Dr. med. Hendrik Streeck and Prof. Dr. med. Mark Oette and Dr. med. Jürgen Stechel from the Advisory Board for her good advice on changes in content and design.

The German AIDS Foundation is dependent on donations to continue its work, especially in times of the corona pandemic:
