GERB uploads pension offer – 15% jump from July 1st (Obzor)

Georgi Gokov: And as rulers, you waited for most of the adults to die

All pensions to be raised by 15% from July 1, and the bonus of BGN 60 to be given by the end of the year. With this proposal, GERB was the first to join the race between the parties for a higher increase in pensions with the budget update.

BGN 430 to become the minimum pension, proposed by GERB. Thus, if the bonus is added, by the end of the year the amount will be BGN 490. GERB wants the ceiling to be BGN 2,000.

“We propose that the proposed changes for October 1 be dropped because they are not well thought out, not coordinated and have not received wide public discussion with stakeholders,” said former Social Affairs Minister Denitsa Sacheva during the no-confidence vote.

The government’s proposal is to raise pensions by 10%, and then to add to them forever the bonus of BGN 60. Thus, the minimum pension will be BGN 467 – BGN 23 below the offer of GERB. The government is proposing that the compensatory supplement from February be included in the pensions. The pension ceiling here is also BGN 2,000, but will be raised to BGN 3,400 as of October 1. For the autumn there is a recalculation of pensions, which will raise the income of 717 thousand people.

The Minister of Social Affairs Georgi Gokov attacked GERB for proposing even higher expenses for the pensions than the government, without saying where the money would come from.

You waited for most of them to die in order to fix your pensions – that’s what people say, I’m just doing it. Go outside to ask the retirees if they will repeat my words, Gokov was angry.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Asen Vassilev estimated that in 12 years GERB has increased pensions by a total of BGN 164, while after that, in just one year, adults are already receiving BGN 167 more.

In 12 years, you have failed to do what our “incompetent” governments have done in 12 months, summarized Vassilev. He regretted that even with the update, the share of pensions in GDP in Bulgaria is 10.4%, and the average share in Europe is 12%. He assured that neither the state will go bankrupt, nor will there be problems with the upcoming budget update.

If I have to choose between the bars and the folders or the zero-deficit financial fetish, on the one hand, and for people to live with dignity, I will choose for retirees to live with dignity, said Vassilev.

The proposals of the other parties should be a fact on Wednesday. Both ITN and MRF have stated their intention to make proposals before the second reading.

“Democratic Bulgaria” and “We continue the change” have given a request that they will ask the fixed amount of BGN 60 not to be added to the amount of future retirees. Because this will further distort the insurance model.
