“Geopolitical Defeat”. Kasparov predicted the conditions for a change of power in Russia

The journalist asked him how he sees “conditional transit, change or reset of power in Russia.”

“Transit is the wrong word, because it implies the possibility of some kind of relatively bloodless transfer of power from hand to hand. Transit is possible only after Putin’s physical departure,” Kasparov said.

He noted that “there can be no other option.”

“You can only count on the fact that the situation will become catastrophic within the country. However, this happens only as a result of a global foreign policy defeat. Until it happens, it is meaningless to hope that a social explosion will occur in Russia,” the oppositionist believes.

According to him, we are talking about a situation in which the so-called deep people understand that everything is lost, and “from above” they understand that this sweet life has come to an end.

“This model of ‘breaking in Russia and keeping it in the West’ and at the same time constantly blackmailing with threats no longer works. This requires a geopolitical defeat. I hope it will not necessarily be a military one. However, a geopolitical defeat means that the West, at least to begin with, will demonstrate readiness resist [президенту РФ Владимиру] Putin. While the readiness that was demonstrated [бывший премьер-министр Великобритании] Winston Churchill, [бывшие президенты США] Ronald Reagan or Harry Truman cannot be found even with fire,” Kasparov explained.

Context:

Putin has served as president of Russia since 2000, with a break in 2008-2012, when he was head of government.

In 2020 amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, which allow Putin to run again for the post of head of the Kremlin in 2024.

Among Putin’s likely successors was the former head of the government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, the current prime minister Mikhail Mishustin, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and other politicians.
