In the general debate on the 2021 budget, the Free Voters and the Greens are calling for the plans for the Nellingen-West building area to be put on hold so that they can concentrate on more important investments.

Ostfildern – Massive loss of income, especially in terms of trade tax, is forcing the city of Ostfildern to change course in financial policy. After years of consolidation, substantial new borrowing is inevitable if one wants to stick to the investment program. The local council only recently gave the green light for the construction of a 14.6 million euro sports hall next to the stadium in Nellingen. The next major project to be tackled is the community school, which is suffering from a blatant lack of space. First Mayor Rainer Lechner demonstrated how all of this can be financed when he presented the draft for the 2021 budget. This includes a loan of eleven million euros. According to Lechner, loans of up to 30 million euros are required by 2024.
