Gemini app prompt bar gets sheet redesign, adding model picker

Gemini App Redesigns Prompt bar,⁣ Integrates Model Picker for Streamlined Access

Google is updating the Gemini app with a redesigned prompt ‌bar that moves⁢ the model picker-allowing users ‍to ‌select between gemini‍ 1.0 Pro, 1.5 Pro, and other models-to ‍the‌ bottom-right corner. The change⁢ also ⁤repositions ‍the microphone icon within a circular housing. This ‍update aims ‍to provide more intuitive ‍access to model selection⁤ directly within conversations, enhancing the user experience for ⁣both Android and iOS platforms.

The ‍shift represents a move toward greater user ⁣control and adaptability within the Gemini ecosystem.⁣ Previously located below the ‌”Gemini” branding on the ‌homepage, the model picker’s new location allows users to quickly adjust the AI model ‌powering their next ⁣prompt ⁢mid-conversation. Selecting options like “Gemini 1.5 Flash” or “Gemini⁣ 1.5‌ Pro” will continue to trigger ⁤the familiar bottom sheet‍ interface for model selection. ‌

The box-less prompt bar redesign itself ⁤has already been widely deployed to Gemini app ⁣users on both‍ Android and iOS, with some reporting the change as early as last month. While the prompt bar update is broadly available, the new model⁤ picker location is currently rolling‌ out ⁣to a limited number of devices. Users who haven’t yet ‌received the update might potentially be‍ able to trigger it by‍ force-stopping the Gemini app.
