Gboard Ending Bitmoji Support: What You Need to Know

Gboard to‍ Drop ⁢Bitmoji Support‍ in December 2025

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – ‌november ⁢21, 2024 – Google’s Gboard keyboard will discontinue support for Bitmoji ⁢stickers on December 15, 2025, according to code discovered in the latest Gboard ‌beta‍ (version 15.8.4.793526320-beta-arm64-v8a) ⁣by Android Authority. The move signals a shift away ‌from third-party sticker ⁣integrations within the popular keyboard app.

The revelation,⁢ first reported by Android Authority, reveals a hidden ‍message within the Gboard code explicitly stating the end of Bitmoji support. While Google has not officially confirmed the change, the specificity of the date suggests ⁤a planned phase-out. Users are expected ‍to begin seeing the notification within the app soon, as the necessary code‌ is already implemented.

Despite the removal from Gboard, Bitmoji stickers will remain accessible through the standalone Bitmoji ‍app and other platforms. This ensures ⁢users who rely on the personalized avatars won’t lose access entirely.

This‌ isn’t⁣ Google’s first attempt at personalized stickers within Gboard. In 2018, ⁣the company launched “Minis,” selfie-based stickers designed to compete ⁣with Bitmoji. Though, google discontinued Minis in september 2021, demonstrating a pattern of ⁣experimenting with and‍ ultimately sunsetting personalized sticker features.

The decision to remove Bitmoji comes as gboard continues to expand its native sticker options, potentially reducing the need for external⁤ integrations. The⁣ keyboard recently received updates focused on ‌improving Autofill functionality for the Google Password Manager and adding the ability to ⁢save custom “Emoji Kitchen” creations as ‍”Favorites,” streamlining the⁢ sticker selection process for users. The integration of Bitmoji into Gboard initially proved popular, particularly among Snapchat users, where Bitmoji originated. However, with a growing library of native Gboard stickers, Google ‌appears to be consolidating its sticker ecosystem.
