Gazprom began pumping gas from storage facilities in Europe

Low UGS reserves pose risks for Gazprom as well

The filling level of Gazprom’s storage facilities is very low. Catching up on the gap in 2021 is almost impossible.

The largest underground gas storage facilities (UGS) of Russian Gazprom in Europe have begun to empty, and now their reserves are at a critically low level. It is reported by Kommersant.

Large PHCs are located in Germany (Rehden and Jemgum), the Netherlands (Bergermeer) and Austria (Haidach). They did not go into the intensive injection mode.

According to European UGS operators, only 2.8 million cubic meters of gas were pumped into Rehden on November 9 and 10. The reserve level of this UGS facility is only 9.58%.

Since November 8, there is a selection from the Jemgum (87.4%) and Haidach (54.2%) storage facilities – 10 and 6 million cubic meters of gas have been pumped out.

The Bergermeer UGS facility is 30.71% full, but selection has also begun there.

According to Kommersant, the filling level of Gazprom’s storage facilities in Europe remains three times lower than the EU average. Thus, it is no longer possible to make up for the lag this year.

The publication also notes that the low level of reserves in the underground storage facilities creates risks for the Russian company itself. It will be difficult for Gazprom to cover daily consumption peaks under its contracts, since it is physically impossible to deliver blue fuel quickly through gas pipelines.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and Slovakia agree on increasing gas supplies.
