Gaza Health Ministry Reports Widespread Arrests of Medical Personnel by Israeli Forces

The Ministry of Health in Gaza has reported that hundreds of medical staff have been detained by Israeli forces since the commencement of the ongoing conflict. This widespread detention of healthcare workers is occurring amidst dire conditions within Israeli detention centers, characterized by severe restrictions and a lack of adequate medical care, according to a ministry statement.

The statement highlighted the case of Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, whose fate remains unknown following his arrest. Dr. Muhammad Abu Salma, Director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, has appealed to international organizations to exert pressure on Israel to disclose Dr. al-Hams’ whereabouts. Dr. Abu Salma characterized the arrest as an attempt to silence palestinian voices advocating for an end to the population’s suffering, emphasizing the perilous environment faced by healthcare workers as they continue their duties under challenging circumstances.

This situation mirrors the reported condition of Dr. Hossam Abu Safia, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.Dr. Abu Safia was reportedly detained by Israel on December 27, 2024, and is experiencing a severe health decline, including a significant weight loss of 40 kilograms, attributed to purposeful deprivation of treatment.

The Ministry of Health’s statement underscores the critical situation faced by medical professionals in Gaza, who are reportedly enduring tragic and challenging circumstances while operating within Israeli detention facilities.
