Gas pipeline explosion causes total blackout, Syria accuses attack

DAMASCUS, KOMPAS.com – A explosion network Gas Pipe Arab has caused power outage total on Syria.

Syrian authorities even accused the explosion of having occurred because of early indications that it had occurred attack as reported from The Jerusalem Post.

This was conveyed by the Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ali Ghanem to the Syrian government-run television channel, Monday (24/8/2020).

Television channel Ikhbariya displays footage of flames enlarging after the explosion.

Officials said the explosion occurred at gas pipe between the cities of Ad Dumayr and Adra in Syria, northwest of Damascus.

“The first indication is this is a terrorist attack,” Ghanem told Ikhbariya.

He added that the pipeline is supplying power plants in the south Syria. Ghanem said the technical team was already in the field.

Syrian Ministry of Electricity, was quoted by state news agencies YOU, said that electricity was gradually being restored to a number of provinces in the country.

In 2013, large parts of Syria were hit by a power outage after rebels attacked a gas pipeline during the country’s civil war.

Reporting from Al Arabiya, The Arab Gas Pipeline System stretches from Egypt to Jordan and Syria.

Meanwhile gazetted by Arab News, the explosion left Syria experiencing a complete blackout.
