Gas from the United States turned out to be more expensive than Russian gas

Businesses pay a higher price than if we bought Russian fuel

It arrives at the border at 82.69 euros per megawatt hour

The business wants compensation

We pay 10.5 percent more

American liquefied natural gas produced in Bulgaria turned out to be more expensive than Russian. The final price of liquefied natural gas from the United States for June for delivery to the Bulgarian border is 87,482 dollars / Mwh or 82.69 euros / Mwh, Trud has learned from high-ranking sources from the Ministry of Energy.

At the same time, the price of gas under the contract with Gazprom Export for June was to be 74.16 euros / Mwh. It turns out that the liquefied natural gas received from the United States is 8.53 euros / Mwh, or 11.50% more expensive than the gas of Gazprom Export, which the government of Kiril Petkov refused to pay in the way proposed by the Russians.

The first tanker with liquefied natural gas from the United States reached Bulgaria via Turkey. Bulgargaz sells the agreed gas from the USA to the Turkish company Botash. The blue fuel was then unloaded at a liquefied natural gas terminal in Turkey, after which Botash again sold the gas to Bulgargaz with the supply of the Strandja / Malkoclar gas connection. The reason for this is that we do not have an agreement with Turkey for the transit of gas through their territory.

The price of gas in Bulgaria, formed with the supply of liquefied natural gas from the United States, which was approved by the EWRC in June, is 141.36 BGN / MWh. For comparison, if we received gas under the contract with Gazprom Export, the price for Bulgarian consumers would be BGN 127.71 / MWh. The government traveled around the world, praying to all traders, and in the end they brought gas only 11.50% more expensive than secure gas under the contract with Gazprom.

As soon as it became clear that the government had refused to pay for Russian gas in the way Gazprom had requested, employers’ organizations in the country demanded compensation for having to pay for more expensive gas. They demanded compensation to cover the higher price of gas as a result of Gazprom’s refusal. However, there is no such compensation.

According to the chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) Stanislav Todorov, new long-term gas supply contracts have not been signed.

“So far I think that negotiations are underway, but as far as I am informed, I cannot confirm whether one has been signed. “As soon as such a step is taken, they must submit the contract to the EWRC for approval,” he said.
