Health Minister Garg has commented on the current corona situation and the stricter rules that will apply from tomorrow. He reiterated that the tightening is a precautionary measure.
The contagiousness of Omikron is significantly higher than with all other corona variants, said Heiner Garg (FDP) on Monday. Whether or not Omikron will have a less dramatic effect on the course of the disease is still being investigated. Since this is not yet known for certain, the state government is currently still issuing stricter regulations. “Because there were massive outbreaks in Schleswig-Holstein against the background of parties, the state government decided to tighten the existing measures at short notice.” He expects a lot of late registrations in the next few days and thus a higher incidence, says Garg. He reiterated the demand to determine the epidemic situation.
Garg is for shorter quarantine periods
Garg also appealed to Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) to quickly implement a regulation that enables shorter quarantine times so that “half the country is not paralyzed” in corona cases. Garg also suggests distinguishing whether someone is vaccinated or boosted. According to him, that would make sense if it turns out that the Omicron variant is actually less dangerous than the previous Corona variants.
Midyatli: State government acts late and hesitantly
Criticism of the crisis management of the state government from the CDU, Greens and FDP came on Monday from the SPD state and parliamentary group leader Serpil Midyatli. She spoke of wrong decisions and too late and hesitant action. The country has gambled away its good starting position with relatively few infections and has become an early Omikron hotspot in Germany.
Incidence rises, situation in hospitals stable
The corona situation in Schleswig-Holstein remains dynamic: After Christmas parties in discos with numerous infections, several thousand visitors were quarantined. With a current incidence of 244.3, the state is now in the middle of the field nationwide. In the hospitals, however, the situation has not yet been dramatic. The number of Covid 19 patients treated there even fell slightly to 163 and that of intensive care patients remained stable at 46.The hospitalization incidence, which is important for corona measures – the number of new corona clinic patients within one week per 100,000 people – recently stagnated at 2 , 4.
The further timetable in the matter of Corona
On Tuesday (4.1.) Some tightening of protective measures will come into force, on Friday the state leaders will discuss the situation with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and on next Monday (10.1.) The state parliament will issue a government declaration from Prime Minister Daniel Günther ( CDU) and then debate.
