ALL COUNTRIES CROSSED IN TODAY’S STAGE (7 OCTOBER)

Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE LIVE of the fifth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2020. The Corsa Rosa arrives on the mainland, exactly in Calabria, with a fraction of well 225 kilometers from Mileto to Camigliatello Silano. Today’s will be one stage moved, distinguished by three ascents, and that in the end it could give some ambush on the GPM of Valico di Monte Scuro. The big players will have to remain at attention until the last.

Starting from Miletus, the runners will head north along the Tyrrhenian coast near Vibo Valentia. Later, they will turn east to reach the Ionian coast through a continuous ups and downs. They will cross in sequence Catanzaro Lido, where is the first intermediate sprint, and the two Third category GPM of Catanzaro and Tiriolo. From here they will start 70 kilometers up and down through the slopes of the Sila. After Cosenza, where is the second intermediate milestone, will begin the ascent of the Valico di Monte Scuro: a first-class GPM almost 25 kilometers at 5.6% with spikes, inside Spezzano della Sila, that touch the 18%. From the pass there will be just over 10 km to go to the finish. Until Snuff, ie 4 kilometers to the finish, it will be all downhill. Reached Camigliatello Silano, you will cross a part of the inhabited center. The last corner is located 400 meters from the conclusion, before the final straight.

Today the pink jersey Joao Almeida (Deceuninck-Quick Step) he is called to defend his leadership in such an insidious stage, which could cause much more turmoil in the current top ten. The young and talented Portuguese will have to be careful, above all, a Vincenzo Nibali. The captain of the Trek-Segafredo it could try to surprise him especially in the long descent that leads to the last 4000 meters of the race. At the same time, the Messina player will have to defend himself from his number one opponent, Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) which, at the moment, seems to be the most lucid and aggressive big on the climb.

Not to be underestimated either Rafal Majka (Bora-Hansgrohe) e Wilco Kelderman (Team Sunweb). While Domenico Pozzovivo (NTT Pro Cycling) e Ilnur Zakarin (CCC) they may suffer a little from the descent, e Steven Kruijswijk (Jumbo-Visma) he didn’t look very bright on the climb. Instead, Fausto Masnada e James Knox they are called to defend the Almeida pink jersey. In the struggle between the big names we also have Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott), who has 3’48 ”to recover from the leader after the black day of Etna. Given what he demonstrated to the last Tirreno-Adriatico he won, he could take advantage of this great opportunity for a final that fits perfectly with his characteristics, trying to attack on Monte Scuro.

For the stage victory, a possible arrival of the fugitives of the day cannot be ruled out among those who have no ambitions for the classification. Among them could enter a man in constant advancement as Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal), or the blues Valerio Conti (UAE Emirates Team) who will have in front of him a made especially for him, Giovanni Visconti (Wines Zabù Brado KTM), who could avenge the second place on Etna, or the very young Matteo Fabbro (Bora-Hansgrohe), who in recent days has shown an excellent physical condition. Other names are those of Simon Clarke (EF Pro Cycling), Hector Carretero (Movistar) The Tao Geoghegan Hart, for an Ineos Grenadiers now orphan of a true leader.

OA Sport offers you LIVE LIVE of the fifth stage of the Corsa Rosa 2020 from 10.00, so as not to miss a second of this Calabrian fraction which could offer unexpected scenarios. Good fun!
