Muhle: Important economic factors and building blocks for future-oriented digitization in companies

The digital theme week ‘Gamification, Serious Games and eSports: Digitize companies in a playful way ?!’, organized by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Digitization, the Lower Saxony digital agency and the APITs Lab (Applied Interactive Technologies), starts today. Until November 12, 2021, Lower Saxony’s state secretary for digitization, Stefan Muhle, and the cooperation partners of the theme week will demonstrate the potential and economic aspects of ‘gamification’, ‘serious games’ and eSports for companies. In games in the ‘Gamification’ category, playful elements are embedded in a context alien to the game, while in ‘Serious Games’ real games are played, which are, however, targeted and informative and in eSports a real sports match is carried out on virtual platforms.

Muhle: “Gamification, serious games and eSports are not only important economic factors, but also building blocks for future-oriented digitization in companies. With our theme week we want to make this clear and sustainably strengthen the area in Lower Saxony. “

The free online events are held in different formats. The participants can choose between a keynote speech and an eSport tournament.

One of the highlights of the week is the lecture by Amelie Künzler, co-founder of SisyFox, on November 9, 2021 at 5 p.m. on the subject of ‘Gamification & Serious Games – Why every company should’ play ‘more. Here she explains why play and work do not have to be opposites and why playing in everyday working life (‘playful work’) promotes creativity and motivation in employees.

Another highlight will take place on Thursday, November 11th from 6:30 p.m.: the third edition of the eSport tournament ‘Virtual Champion Lower Saxony’. At the event, 16 well-known professionals will compete against each other in the football simulation FIFA. Participants can win a total of 1,500 euros in prize money and 25,000 FIFA Points (around 200 euros) will be raffled off among the spectators during the game. The winners can then use the virtual currency to pay the entry fee for the next FIFA match, or they can invest in FIFA Ultimate Team Cards (FUT) to quickly put together a virtual dream team. The tournament will be broadcast on the Twitch streaming platform.

Background:

According to ‘game’, the association of the German gamer industry, more than 34 million Germans, with an average age of 37.5 years, regularly or occasionally play computer and video games. The gender distribution is almost even with 48 percent women and 52 percent men. The association assumes that the playful, social and interactive components make digital games so popular, especially because they are also used as an active learning format, motivator and even therapy companion. The German games market, which is forecast to grow by an average of 19 percent to $ 370 million in 2023, also shows that this industry has great potential.

Das APITs Lab:

The state of Lower Saxony recognized the potential of the games industry and initiated the Applied Interactive Technologies Lab, APITs Lab for short, in 2017 to support Lower Saxony’s economy on issues such as gamification and serious games. At the same time, the APITs Lab promotes the targeted networking of the Lower Saxony games industry.
