Gamera: Rebirth – Netflix announces the anime film of Kaiju

Competition stimulates business, and so Gamera, another kaiju who became the defender of mankind, awoke in Japan. Much like its Godzilla model, a giant tortoise movie will now be made on the Netflix streaming service. A first teaser offers a brief overview of the project.

Further details about the film are not currently available, therefore it is not possible to provide information on the content, cast or speakers and the production studio. With Kinema Citrus (Made in the abyss, Star Wars: Visions) you would already have your own in-house soul forge at Kadokawa-Verlag, the rights holder of the Kaiju.

Work on the project has been going on for about two years. This was confirmed by a comment from director Shusuke Kaneko (Heisei Gamera Trilogy), who approached Kadokawa in 2021 with his proposal for a new Gamera project.

The flying, fire-breathing giant tortoise Gamera celebrated in 1965 Gamera – Frankenstein’s monster from the ice his debut. But unlike his lizard model, Gamera serves as humanity’s protector and was even able to telepathically communicate with a human in the most recent film. A total of twelve films were released, the latest being Gamera the brave was released in 2006. The flagship of the series, however, is the Heisei Gamera trilogy (Gamera – Guardian of the Universe, Gamera 2 – The attack of the legion, Gamera 3 – Iris’s Revenge), which fans consider a landmark monster movie. A new film was supposed to come out for the 50th birthday in 2015, but it was indefinitely postponed.
