Galileo and Newton’s stolen works found in Romania | Abroad

This has been announced by the Agency for Judicial Cooperation of the European Union. The books, especially first editions, were stolen in 2017 during a spectacular and professional burglary in a warehouse in London.

The stockpile of some 200 rare and valuable books was discovered on Wednesday, hidden in a hidden space under a house in rural Romania. The national police in the Eastern European country had raided the building after a tip.

Value of over 2 million

After the discovery, the London police stated in a statement that the recovered books have a combined value of more than 2.5 million pounds (more than 2.1 million euros), but cannot actually be expressed in value.

“These books are extremely valuable, but more importantly, they are irreplaceable and of great importance to the international cultural heritage,” Inspector Andy Durham said in a statement.

Gravity

Isaac Newton was a physicist and described the theory of gravity, Galilio Galilei was a renowned physicist and astronomer.

Burglars cut holes in the roof at the burglary three years ago and rappelled into the building to avoid motion detectors. They loaded the books into sixteen large bags and climbed back up to escape through the roof, police said, who said a Romanian organized crime gang was responsible for the theft.

Previously, houses had been raided in three countries and several suspects had been arrested, but the stolen works were without a trace until recently.
