Laundrie made his confession in his diary. That is reason for the FBI to close the investigation, according to a statement. Brian Laundrie took his own life late last year.

“The investigation has identified no other possible suspects who may be involved in Petito’s death,” the statement said.
Messages between phones
The FBI says Laundrie sent messages between their two phones after Petito’s death. That way he wanted to make it look like she was still alive.
Petito and Laundrie (23) started a tour of the United States last June and reported on social media.

Big search
However, on September 1, Laundrie returned alone. A massive search began and Petito’s body was found on September 19. She had been strangled.
In the meantime, Laundrie had also disappeared. His body was finally found in October in a Florida wilderness area not far from his childhood home. He had shot himself in the head. A backpack and diary were also found nearby.
