Further infection protection measures in schools – Berlin.de

Education Senator Sandra Scheeres informed the Senate at its meeting today about further infection protection measures at Berlin schools. The basis for this is the resolution of the heads of government of the federal states with the Federal Chancellor of November 25, 2020. Berlin has already implemented important of the measures named there with the current, still applicable model hygiene plan and in some cases even tightened it. These include:

  • the general obligation to wear a mouth and nose cover in secondary and vocational schools
  • the staggered beginning of teaching, to deconstruct student currents
  • alternating lessons at the “red” level are possible for all schools on the basis of the valid sample hygiene plan

The following measures should also apply for a limited period up to and including January 8, 2021:
1. In all Berlin districts with an incidence of more than 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, it is mandatory to wear a mouth and nose cover in classes in grades 5 and 6 at elementary schools and community schools. This already applies to schools with basic trains.
2. As long as the state of Berlin has an incidence of more than 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, there is a situation for schools the voluntary optionto switch to the alternative scenario in grades 8 and 11 at the integrated secondary schools and community schools and in grades 8 and 9 at the general high schools. This usually means: division of the learning group and a mixture of school-guided learning at home and face-to-face teaching. The prerequisite for this is a resolution by the school conference and a sound concept for the alternative scenario. According to the latest resolution of the heads of government of the federal states with the Federal Chancellor, grades relevant for graduation are excluded.
3. School trips will not take place until further notice.

Sandra Scheeres, Senator for Education, Youth and Family: “Our schools have been developing the concept of hybrid and alternating teaching for many months and have already tested it in many cases. Berlin is well prepared here. The regulation that the final year classes remain in classroom teaching is very welcome. This step strengthens the educational equality, pupils should not lose touch. ”

The new measures will take effect on Monday 7 December. Schools can introduce these earlier on a voluntary basis.
Explanation: According to the decision of the federal government and the federal states, years relevant to graduation are excluded from switching to the alternative scenario. In grade 9, integrated secondary schools (ISS) and community school have passed the vocational qualification. In grade 10 to the ISS, Community schools and grammar schools, the intermediate school leaving certificate, the extended vocational training certificate, the vocational training certificate or the vocational training certificate are taken. Grades 11 and 12 at grammar schools and grades 12 and 13 ISS and community schools are considered final classes, as these years are relevant for the Abitur exams.
The qualification phase of the Abitur Q1 – Q4 (grades 11 and 12 at grammar schools and 12 and 13 on ISS and community schools) consists of two school years, i.e. four course half-years. For example, about two thirds of the grades from all four semesters of the course go into the Abitur grade.

At the vocational training schools, the specifications of the sample hygiene plan including the Corona step-by-step plan apply unchanged, since all years are relevant for the qualification. In general, the current sample hygiene plans, including the step-by-step plan, remain in effect for all schools.
