Funeral service for DMX – with a street parade through New York

A red coffin stood on the stage. Due to corona requirements, only a few musicians were allowed in the large arena besides family and friends. In one of his last major shows, DMX performed at the Barclays Center in June 2019.

A huge monster truck labeled “Long Live DMX” had previously driven the coffin from Yonkers, the rapper’s hometown, through the streets of New York to Brooklyn. Hundreds of motorcycles and cars followed the truck with loud DMX music, fans lined the streets.

After a heart attack and days of artificial respiration, the native Earl Simmons died on April 9 at the age of 50 in a clinic near New York.

Colleagues from the music and film scene, including rapper Missy Elliott, singer Nas, producer Timbaland and actresses Halle Berry and Viola Davis expressed their grief at the time. The rapper, who became known in the 1990s with hits like “Party Up”, “Ruff Riders’ Anthem” and “Get At Me Dog”, had also starred in a dozen films, including “Romeo Must Die” and “Exit Wounds ».
