Fun, Deaf Children Chat With NASA Astronauts

The event was hosted by local fans from Newbury and the District Amateur Radio Society.

“All of you (students) have entertained me, thank you very much,” concluded the astronaut in the last session the questions were answered.

“You could say I was excited, although at first I was nervous,” said one student about his experience that day.

“This is a great story to go down in history, to be the first deaf person to actually speak directly to astronauts,” said another student.

“This is an amazing opportunity and how wonderful that they replied to my greeting, that’s really cool,” said another student.

The ISS has Amateur Radio stations on board and the astronauts are also licensed radio amateurs.
