The relief for Fulham came in the added time of the first extension, although it did need the help of Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
Left back Joe Bryan pretended to swing a free kick in front of the goal, but instead curled the ball straight into the corner. Goalkeeper Raya, who had come a long way from his goal, dribbled on the cheeks with the blush.
Immediately after the goal, Halil Dervisoglu, picked up at Sparta Rotterdam during the winter break, came into the field for Brentford. But also the Rotterdammer could not find a hole in the close defense of Fulham.
In fact, shortly before time, Bryan – who had only scored once this season – even made 2-0 after a nice combination. In the final minute Henrik Dalsgaard still made the head 2-1, but there was no time for a miraculous comeback.
