Fujifilm Unveils GFX ETERNA 55, a new Large-Format Cinema Camera
VALHALLA, NY – May 14, 2024 – Fujifilm today announced the FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA 55 filmmaking camera, a new addition to its GFX series boasting a 55-megapixel large-format sensor and designed for professional cinema production. The camera aims to bridge the gap between high-end cinema cameras and large-format still photography, offering filmmakers a unique combination of image quality, versatility, and workflow efficiency.
The GFX ETERNA 55 features a 54.8mm diagonal (43.8mm x 32.9mm) sensor – approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm full-frame sensor – and is capable of recording in Apple ProRes formats. fujifilm states, based on research conducted September 11, 2025, that the GFX ETERNA 55 offers the largest sensor size among commercially available filmmaking cameras for cinema use.[1]
Key features include internal prores recording, a dedicated filmmaking mode, and compatibility with a range of cinema lenses.The camera’s circular image area where light is focused through the lens is designed for optimal image quality.[3] While recording, certain features are not supported.[4] Fujifilm advises users to check their website for a current list of confirmed compatible cards.[5]
