Fuel crisis begins in the UK

Most gas stations are out of fuel

There is enough fuel in the country, but there is no one to deliver it to the gas station due to the lack of truckers.

In the UK, gas stations were massively closed due to fuel shortages, reports Associated press.

Due to the current situation, huge queues have formed at the working gas stations. In order to refuel a car, drivers have to wait for hours.

The Gasoline Retailers Association, which represents nearly 5,500 independent outlets, said about two-thirds of its members had sold their fuel, while the rest were “partially depleted and will soon run out.”

The fuel crisis stemmed from supply disruptions caused by a shortage of truck drivers. At the same time, it is noted that there is enough fuel in the country, but it is at the terminals and refineries.

Transport industry officials say the UK is short of tens of thousands of truckers due to a number of factors, including the coronavirus pandemic, an aging workforce and an outflow of foreign workers following the country’s exit from the EU.

Due to the current situation, the UK government has announced that it will issue thousands of emergency visas to foreign truck drivers so that the British do not have a turkey at Christmas. In particular, 5 thousand three-month visas for truck drivers and another 5,500 visas for poultry farmers will be issued from October.

As reported BBCAlso, the government will suspend the competition law in order to establish fuel supplies. This will make it easier for oil companies to share information and prioritize the parts of the country most in need.

Ministers are also considering using the army to deliver fuel.
