Boston, MA – September 7, 2025 – The Free Software Foundation (FSF) today launched public voting for its FSF40 Photo Contest, showcasing the diverse and creative ways free software is integrated into daily life. The contest, initiated as part of the FSF’s 40th-anniversary celebrations, received numerous submissions demonstrating the power and versatility of free software.
The FSF40 Photo Contest aims to honor the dedication of developers and users who contribute to the free software movement. submissions highlight how individuals and communities leverage free software tools for everything from artistic expression to essential productivity tasks. These images represent only a fraction of the possibilities unlocked by free software.
Free software supporters are invited to cast their vote for their favorite image at my.fsf.org/node/84. Participation requires an FSF account, which can be created as a free non-member account at my.fsf.org/civicrm/profile/create?gid=336.
Voting will conclude on September 14, 2025, after which the winning image will be announced. The selected photograph will be prominently featured on the FSF homepage, included in commemorative materials, and displayed at the live FSF40 festivity event in Boston.
