Frosty Temperatures Hit New York Area With Threat Of Frost – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – If you’ve avoided it until now, it’s time to show off your winter gear as freezing temperatures approach the New York area.

Temperatures dropped in the 1920s early Wednesday in the northern suburbs, while in New York City we dropped in the 1940s, on one of the coldest mornings we’ve had since April this year.

Much of the three-state area was covered in frost or warnings as the sun rose Wednesday, with temperatures just above freezing in some areas.

Sunny skies will prevail for much of the day as low pressure moves snow into the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region. That would bring those conditions a little closer to our area, which could also leave some snowflakes in Sullivan and Ulster counties.

Temperatures at that point would be in the 40s to 50s, but will feel even cooler due to the expected strong gusts as well.

Wednesday night will be another cold night with night temperatures dropping between 30 and 40 years. On Thursday, the sun will return and temperatures will start to rise, which is good news.

And even better news, especially for those in parts of New Jersey: we could see temperatures of around 70 degrees in the New Jersey outback by the weekend. That means Saturday looks like the perfect time for the Astros-Yankees game at Yankee Stadium.

Temperatures will remain above average until the middle of next week, but our sunny days will give way to cloudiness and some chance of rain. At this point, it looks like the next chance for the latter is Sunday, so stay tuned.

Wednesday

Maximum: 54 degrees. Mostly sunny and windy with partially clear and minimal nights in the 30s and 40s.

Thursday

Maximum: 58 degrees. Mostly sunny and windy.

Friday

Maximum: 62 degrees. Mostly sunny

Saturday

Maximum: 66 degrees. Mostly sunny

Domingo

Maximum: 65 degrees. Mostly cloudy with rain in the afternoon.
