From Place Stanislas to Mont-Saint-Michel, confinement seen from the sky

EMOTIONS. “There are several feelings that intertwine. When we see frozen cities ( Nancy and its place Stanislas , Metz and its cathedral , Thionville and its town hall ), the first reaction is surprise. But soon enough, when you browse these images on your screen, it’s another emotion that grabs you.

“Our team was able observe Mont-Saint-Michel without any sign of life, just with a few parked cars. The coincidence of the return journey made our plane pass over a large amusement park. The light was beautiful and they took a few pictures, by the way. When I saw them, I was just terrified. Imagine: such an empty installation, without any movement, where usually there are thousands of people, it twists the guts. It was really like what we all went through: both destabilizing, dumbfounding and ultra-creepy. ”

PRICE. “In a few days, we went from the great sun to the storm. We were coming back from Los Angeles where we had just participated, at the beginning of March, in the annual convention of the international association of aerial photographers. We had just won the title of photographer of the year who has come to reward our expertise for over twenty years. And the prize for the best photo, awarded by the public in the “vertical” category. We were pumped up. When we left for the United States, we still talked about the Covid-19 like a good flu. No one was yet alarmist. Everything changed very suddenly when we returned. And we obviously chose to wait to share these distinctions because this was absolutely the moment. “

WEATHER. “We took advantage of exceptional weather conditions, with foliage still little present and, confinement requires, almost desert urban areas. In strict compliance with the regulations and with all the necessary precautions related to barrier measures, we were able to carry out, with our Green Project low carbon light aircraft , eleven missions in ten different departments, or nearly 25,000 photos. For example, we took no less than 6,000 aerial photos on 500 km of LGV line

HORIZON.Despite the sanitary storm, we passed between the drops and we were able to work. Really, we were lucky. I’m fifty-six and the years have made me a philosopher. I know clouds always dissipate. But you really feel that the economy is shaken like never before. I don’t know how quickly the sky will clear. And the horizon will turn blue again. “
