from Madrid to Seville, all the marches for women’s day

The origin of International Women’s Day is certainly unstable, but what is certain is that the last few years has been a key day around the world. With nearly one million attendees at the 8M demonstration in Madrid in 2019 (375,000, according to the authorities), the day of March 8 has become a day of struggle in which millions of people from different countries they raise their voices to defend a real equality between men and women. On this occasion, and unlike what has happened in the last two years, in 2020 a feminist general strike was not called, but there will be no lack of demonstrations in all the cities of Spain and, surely, in almost all the big cities on the planet.

The marches take place the same week in which the Government of Pedro Sánchez approves the Law of Sexual Freedom and against sexual violence, one of the many demands of the Spanish feminist collective. So the Sunday, March 8 the streets will once again be colored purple and many of the demands for equality will be heard again. These are the demonstrations called for the 8M 2020 day:

Aragon, demonstrations without strike

There will be several events for March 8, although no strike is called. University students will demonstrate in the morning, while the central demonstration will depart at 18:00 from Gran Vía to Plaza del Pilar. Asturias: 8M without stoppages

There will be no strike or work stoppages in the Principality of Asturias, but the feminist movement has called on Asturian women to support a care strike in order to make visible how they contribute to sustaining life with tasks that are not visible or unpaid. Balearic Islands: strike (in the Pitiusas)

The Mallorca Feminist Movement pretends that this year the 8M is “vindictive and ecofeminist”, for which it has called a demonstration in Palma Sunday at 12:00. Castilla y León

Catalonia: strike and work stoppages

Contrary to what happens in most of the autonomous communities, some unions have called a strike in Catalonia.
