From Europe arrives at the Cabañas Museum, the work titled Larger than Life by the Spanish plastic artist Ángela de la Cruz, the assembly was carried out in 1998 and it has only been exhibited four times, Spain, London, Israel and Germany, now it reaches Mexico as the first country in the American continent that exhibits one of the most beloved pieces of the plastic artist.

“It represents a good opportunity for the public to appreciate a piece that has never been presented in the American continent, despite the fact that it is a famous piece, especially at the European level,” explained Víctor Palacios, curator of the Cabañas Museum.

Greater than Life is the representation of the human body. It is one of the artist’s greatest works. In the five times it has been exhibited, it is presented in a different way, that is, the piece fits into space.

“This piece was a kind of giant dancer who came to the space of being in theatrical musical performances and others to try to make some sense, a kind of choreography,” revealed the curator.

Angela sought to enrich and complicate the relationship between painting and other disciplines such as architecture and sculpture.

Currently this piece is of great value for the artist because eight years after its creation, she never imagined that it would happen to make a representation of her own body and how she is perceived, after in 2006 she suffered a stroke to celebrate that the left paralyzed and few possibilities to communicate orally.

“In a certain way she also sees the work as somewhat stunted, something uncomfortable that makes it difficult for her to move, to communicate. There is a relationship between his body and the piece, ”he said.

The work will remain until July 2020 in room 13 of the Cabañas Museum.
