What happened?
Mladenovic had an advantage in the 5: 1 condition in the first set when Siegemund was given. She shortened the game for the net, the opponent returned the ball, but only after it landed on the clay for the second time, which revealed the record. Mladenovic then touched the net during the blow and lost the point.
She argued with Chief Judge Eva Asderaki, but she didn’t see a double impact. “She was perhaps the only one on the center court,” Mladenovic said angrily. “It’s human to make a mistake, but I don’t understand that she didn’t notice. She’s going on Roland Garros, I’m not!”
Laura Siegemund saved seven points to win the first set, 7-5, over Kiki Mladenovic, but did the German *truly* earn the comeback?

She did not blame the German opponent for not reporting a double impact. “If she did, she would have my super respect, but she is not responsible for that. It is up to the main referee,” said the Frenchwoman. “I was running full speed and it was tight. I was lucky she touched the net. The judge awarded me a point,” Siegemund commented.
Mladenovic might welcome the introduction of video for similarly controversial moments in the future. “Similar scenarios would be avoided,” she said.

The French woman is experiencing another unsuccessful grand slam. She already led 6: 1, 5: 1 in Flushing Meadows, had four match points and still lost to Russia’s Varvara Grecheva.
