French film world mourns Michael Lonsdale, known for “Moonraker” and “The name of the rose”

Lonsdale’s career was not limited to French cinema. He has also appeared in several international productions. Perhaps his best-known role is that of Sir Hugo Drax in the 1979 James Bond film “Moonraker”.

He also got roles in “The day of the Jackal”, “The name of the rose”, “The remains of the day” and the action movie “Ronin” starring Robert De Niro, among others. In 2005 he appeared in Steven Spielberg’s drama “Munich”. The film tells the story of the hostage taking of several Israeli athletes during the Munich Olympics in 1972.

Michael Lonsdale was also a gifted theater maker. He acted in and directed several shows. He also recorded a lot of documentaries.
