French buyer for Maxi Toys toy chain

The Maxi Toys toy chain comes into French hands. This will save 826 of the more than 1,200 jobs in the Belgian toy chain.

The acquirer is the Gueydon family, the historical shareholder of the French toy group King Jouet.

The Maxi Toys brand name will continue to exist, the current management will remain in place and the chain will be managed autonomously, it says.

The acquirer will acquire two thirds of the Maxi Toys assets. The headquarters will remain in Houdeng-Goegnies in Hainaut and the distribution center located there (Logitoys) will remain operational. A total of 22 of the 54 Belgian stores will be taken over, in France 95 of the 129. As a result, a total of 826 jobs will be saved in both countries.

Of the 28 former Bart Smit stores, which are now called Maxi Toys City and are mainly located in Flanders, only 2 will be taken over. Maxi Toys took over Bart Smit’s Belgian stores early last year from the bankrupt Dutch Intertoys. The trustee continues to look for another solution for these stores.
