In Germany around 7.5 million people work in mini-jobs – two thirds of them are women. At first glance, a mini job seems to be a good way to combine work and family work and to supplement the household budget. But often women mini-jobbers don’t get what they’re due. What are my rights? What about health and pension insurance? Do I get wages if I am sick? Where can I get advice? Answers to these and other questions can be found in the new brochure “The mini job – there’s more for you!”. It has now been published by the Freiburg contact point for women and work and the city’s women’s representative.

With the brochure, the editors want to encourage women to exercise their rights as mini-jobbers and to assert their claims. But you also want to point out the disadvantages of this form of employment. Mini-jobbers do not achieve full social security entitlements. This means that they have no right to unemployment benefits or short-time work benefits, for example, which is a disadvantage for them not least in the corona pandemic. It is therefore important not to lose sight of a job that secures a living and to think about other career prospects. The brochure therefore also includes contact points that provide support when switching to or (re) entering employment that is subject to social insurance.

The brochure was published together with the women’s and gender equality officers in the districts of Emmendingen and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. It is available free of charge from the Bürgerinfo in the city hall, Rathausplatz 2-4 in Freiburg and can be downloaded from www.frauundberuf.freiburg.de and www.freiburg.de/frauenbeauftragte.
