Freiburg: “Make a mark of humanity” – SPD member of the Landtag Rolland comments on the admission of refugees from Greek camps

There are currently around 40,000 refugees on the Greek islands of the eastern Aegean, 20,000 of whom are in the Moria refugee camp. It is hopelessly crowded as it is only set up to accommodate 3,000 people. There is great concern about a corona outbreak. The federal government has now opened the possibility of taking a few people, especially children, away from there. In the opinion of the SPD member of the Landtag Gabi Rolland, this should only be a first step.

Rolland is therefore calling on the state government to make full use of the legal options available to ease the local situation. Many cities and municipalities, including those in Baden-Württemberg, had agreed to accept refugees as part of the “Seebrücke” initiative. For the SPD politician, one thing is certain: “It would be a clear and important sign of humanity if Baden-Württemberg would offer help. The Prime Minister must examine how support can be provided under paragraph 23 of the Residence Act. ”
