Freiburg is facing a weekend of protest – Freiburg

Despite contact restrictions, numerous rallies have been announced for the weekend in Freiburg. For example, protests are to be made for liberties and aid for the catering trade.

After the restrictions on public life were partially relaxed, another aspect of the public is picking up speed again: On Wednesday, a demonstration took place in front of the state initial reception facility on Lrracher Strasse. Further rallies are registered for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

There is currently no general demo ban

For weeks, the Freiburg residents have only been able to play in front of the Trees in pairs. This limitation naturally makes demonstrations difficult. Reports of conflicts between the police and protesters were not long in coming. The “One City for All” faction took this as a reason for a fire letter to the mayor, demanding that “public protests and political opinions that respect general corona protection measures should not be prevented, pressured or prosecuted” .

“It is not that easy to restrict a basic legal right with the Infection Protection Act.” Michael Wehner, State Center for Political Education

The Jupi faction also wrote to the OB and asked what forms of political opinion-making could be carried out in public space without endangering infection control. Although an answer to both letters is still pending, the chairwoman of the parliamentary group of “One City for All”, Monika Stein, says that the administration now has the line: prevent nothing, but health protection has priority. The Jupi faction has confirmed that the city’s legal office has confirmed that meetings can still be held. Michael Wehner from the State Center for Political Education also says that. “It is not that easy to restrict a basic legal right with the Infection Protection Act,” he says. “In case of doubt, the courts will try.” And only last week the Federal Constitutional Court declared a general ban on demonstrations to be inadmissible.

Freedom lawyers and restaurateurs, but also supporters of conspiracy legends are planning actions

That seems to have made the rounds. Five rallies have been announced in Freiburg this week alone. The police also report an increasing number of “demonstrative actions” as the corona restrictions progress. So far, these have been peaceful and have usually complied with the basic hygiene regulations. Not everyone was registered. Registrations are fundamentally possible, but far-reaching conditions must be expected.

Yesterday, opponents of the state initial reception facilities on Lrracher Strae also demonstrated. On Saturday, an alliance from the area of Berlin’s conspiracy theory “hygiene demos” wants to distribute basic laws, and the Freiburg Solidarity Network wants to demonstrate from 3:00 p.m. on the square of the old synagogue against the restriction of liberties, where the Burger Chalet is calling on restaurateurs to set up empty chairs . On Sunday, the Verkehrs-Club Deutschland and the Initiative Fu- und Radentscheid block a lane of the Schlossberg ring for cars to indicate the lack of space for pedestrians and cyclists.

Fridays for Future protests on the Internet

Only Fridays for Future remains online with their action day on Friday. “We want to keep the risk as low as possible,” said co-organizer Moritz Schmidt. He thinks it’s good that there is more going on on the street, but “for us this is not the best option”. Instead, the climate activists have come up with various online forms of action. However, other organizations around Attac have announced a rally on the Rathausplatz on Friday to express their support on the climate issue. You are expecting 20 activists – of course with mouth protection and the proper distance, say the organizers.
