The 22-year-old attacker Skyler McKenzie comes from the Winnipeg Jets to Breisgau. The native Canadian learned to play ice hockey in his home country and was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the seventh round of the NHL draft in 2017. For the past two seasons, the left-handed shooter wore the jersey of the AHL farm team Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League, the second highest North American professional league, and was able to score 40 points in 108 appearances.

His game is characterized by a lot of energy, speed and individual skills. It can be used in any situation and takes our game to a new level. We have had to do without two contingent players for some time. At Nick Pageau we look from day to day, at Cam Spiro from week to week. Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Winnipeg Jets, Larry Simmons added: “We are grateful that Skyler McKenzie was given the chance to play ice hockey under competitive conditions at EHC Freiburg during these difficult times.”
The young Canadian striker will support EHC Freiburg on loan until the start of the season in North America to compensate for Cam Spiro’s longer downtime.
