Frank Lampard’s job at Chelsea is in serious jeopardy, with the club in eighth place after four losses in six Premier League games, according to reports.

The Blues were comfortably beaten 3-1 by Manchester City of Pep Guardiola on Sunday night to add to Lampard’s recent problems at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had collapsed in the table after previous losses to Everton, Wolves, Arsenal, but West Londoners are now behind Everton and Aston Villa in the table, with both sides having games underway against Lampard.

And according to The Athletic, the Blues are exploring other options for Chelsea’s head coach role following Lampard’s recent form at Stamford Bridge.

The report says Chelsea are concerned about the shape of new attack signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, which were part of a £ 253million rebuild at Stamford Bridge over the summer.

Former RB Leipzig forward Werner is now goalless in nine league appearances despite 28 goals in 34 appearances for the German club last season.

Meanwhile, Havertz has signed £ 89million in just two games for Chelsea since joining for Bayer Leverkusen, Lampard leaving the 21-year-old out of the starting lineup in his last four league games.

New signings Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell impressed in places, but struggled with injuries as the newness of Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy boosting the defense wore off after the recent losses.

Athletic also claim tensions are growing between Lampard and several members of Chelsea’s first team following public criticism during the busy winter schedule.

Lampard answered questions about his future following the latest loss to Manchester City – which saw Guardiola’s side progress 3-0 at halftime – but admitted he was not worried about his immediate future .

He told reporters: “I understand that the minute you lose a few games in a short period of time everyone is watching and asking questions. Then everyone looks at it a different way and says you spent so much money.

“#I will always feel the heat. I felt the heat when we were on our good run because I know the area around can be the negative.

“#I’m not going to speak for the people above me because I can never do that. That’s why I couldn’t respond a month ago about getting a new contract, I can’t respond to what they are thinking now but it is.

“It’s my job to focus on the job, not what they think, it would distract me and I can’t do it.

Lampard is a legend at the Chelsea club having scored 211 goals for the Blues during his playing days while maintaining a special relationship with owner Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea are also just three points ahead of London rivals Arsenal, who had their worst league start in 50 years – despite Mikel Arteta’s side having won their last three games.

Rumors of a possible Lampard replacement circulated in the last week of 2020 as German newspaper Bild claimed Chelsea would be interested in bringing in Thomas Tuchel as manager following his dismissal from PSG.

Germany’s report claimed Tuchel would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge to work with Werner, Havertz and defender Antonio Rudiger.
