Krefeld / Mönchengladbach. The 57-year-old succeeds Michael Magyar, who is retiring

For two months they worked in parallel at the community theater so that all the important tasks and priorities could be discussed once: Michael Magyar, now the former managing director, and his successor Frank Baumann – the new head of the multi-branch company. The business graduate was in charge of finance and accounting at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein for 21 years before he moved to the Lower Rhine. He is therefore very familiar with the special structure of a two-city theater.

He has had a long friendship with Michael Magyar, they always helped each other and asked for advice when things got tricky, says Baumann. In addition to focusing on the commercial part, the new managing director would also like to take care of marketing aspects and optimize controlling. In addition, there is a real mammoth task that must be prepared soon: the renovation of both theaters, which will be necessary in a few years (for Krefeld, this is planned for 2025). Baumann is certain: “That will take a lot of energy,” and explains: “The technical systems are at a level that is no longer appropriate for the artistic quality of our house.” It is important to him that the people of Gladbach and Krefeld have the wonderful pearls they come with would have appreciated their theater.

General manager Michael Grosse is looking forward to the new partner at his side and at the same time looks back gratefully on many years of trusting cooperation with Michael Magyar. “In the end, every decision is an artistic decision because it serves one purpose: that the curtain goes up in the evening,” says Grosse.

If you ask Michael Magyar about his time at the community theater, he answers cheerfully: “I really enjoyed working here!” As a civil servant for the city of Mönchengladbach, Magyar came to the Theater Krefeld and Mönchengladbach in 2007, a rather unusual step for a communal civil servant, which he never did have repented. He found discovering “how a theater works internally” as exciting and enriching, even if he had to deal with “crazy” tasks like fire protection renovations, which made it necessary to temporarily close both theaters. Michael Magyar is particularly proud to be one of the founding fathers of the gGmbH: “We have laid a great foundation stone that the theater has not been a municipal office since 2011,” he is convinced. We can look forward to the projects and ideas with which his successor will develop and help shape the theater.
