France – World | Baby dies after lightning meningitis

A baby died this weekend in Limoges, in Haute-Vienne, after being “taken care of for an invasive meningococcal infection” reports France Bleu.

The infant “was taken care of quickly and was not in contact with other children,” said the office of the prefect of Haute-Vienne to France Bleu Limousin. The Regional Health Agency (ARS) and the Haute-Vienne prefecture believe that there is no risk of contagion.

Meningococcus is not very contagious, except in the case of direct contact: it does not resist in the air and is transmitted only by saliva.

The child’s entourage was treated as a preventive measure.
