France to increase “péage” or toll on highways from February 1, 2022

Private road operator Autoroutes du Sud de la France (ASF) is said to raise prices by 2.19 percent, Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhône (APRR) by 2.05 percent. The price hike still has to be approved by the government.

The very strict contracts between motorway companies and the government provide for an automatic increase in toll rates every February. This increase is dependent on inflation and the work on the motorways.

Consumer price inflation in France has been accelerating sharply since last summer. In November it was 2.8 percent, mainly as a result of rising energy prices.
