A man was killed around 5 pm in the town of Conflans Sainte-Honorine, in the Yvelines, about an hour from Paris, on the street next to a school. The murderer, of Algerian nationality, born in 1972, beheaded him with a knife shouting “Allah Akhbar”. The police were immediately notified as the assailant fled on foot to a neighboring municipality in Eragny. When he was reached by the agents he refused to give up and continued to wield the knife. At that point he was killed by the policemen who fired a dozen shots.

The motive
The victim is a history professor, Samuel P., who in recent days had shown in a high school class the cartoons of Muhammad published by Charlie Hebdo, on the occasion of the trial against those responsible for the massacre of January 7, 2015. The professor’s explanation , during a lesson on freedom of expression, he had aroused protests and threats from the parents of some students.

Terrorism
The anti-terrorism prosecutor immediately took over the investigation. On Friday 25 September, three weeks ago, another attack was carried out by an Islamist who struck two people smoking in the street in front of the former offices of the Charlie Hebdo editorial office in Paris.
