France is investigating dozens of mosques for extremism

According to French media, at least 18 places of worship could be closed. Of the 76 mosques under investigation, 16 are located in the Paris region.

Authorities previously closed a mosque near Paris for six months, following the beheading of a teacher who showed a cartoon of the Muslim prophet Mohammed during a lesson on freedom of expression. A few days before the gruesome murder, the mosque had distributed a video directed against this teacher via a Muslim extremist.
