France has entered the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic with a higher rate of growth of those infected, government spokesman Gabriel Attal was quoted as saying by Reuters and TASS today.

He was speaking after a cabinet meeting at which a new plan to combat Kovid-19 was adopted to ease pressure on hospitals and introduce small changes to measures such as reducing fines for violations. The plan provides for the presentation of a “health passport” for entry into, for example, shopping malls, restaurants or cinemas, as well as mandatory vaccination of health workers. These are some of the strictest anti-epidemic measures in Europe, Reuters noted.

According to the spokesman, the rate of spread of the coronavirus is currently “higher than any of the previous waves”.

About 10,000 new cases are now being registered in France every day, 80 per cent of them due to the Delta variant, found in all regions of the country, he added.
