The State Department has ordered the families of employees of the US Embassy in Ukraine to begin evacuation from the country immediately on Monday, US officials told Fox News.
Next week, the State Department is expected to encourage Americans to start leaving Ukraine on trade flights, “while they are still available,” a State Department official said.
Moscow has gathered tens of thousands of troops on the border with Ukraine, leading to fears of invasion, and the United States is taking this very seriously.
Talks between Secretary of State Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday did not lead to a breakthrough, although both sides agreed to continue diplomatic talks. The two diplomats will speak again after the United States presents an official response to Russia’s demands next week.
The US government plans to transfer “tons” of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine in the coming days, officials said back in Fox. Late Friday night, the US Embassy in Ukraine announced that the first shipment of ammunition had arrived on the instructions of President Biden, Fox News reported.
