Gauteng Police Hunt Serial Killer After Fourth Body Found
String of Murders Plagues Watloo Train Station
Authorities in Gauteng are intensifying their investigation into a series of disturbing murders following the discovery of a burnt female victim at Watloo train station. This grim find marks the fourth body found at or near the station in recent months.
Escalating Violence
The latest victim was found on Stormvoel Street in Silvertondale on August 4th. Police spokesperson, Brigadier **Brenda Muridili**, confirmed that three other bodies were discovered between the Watloo and Denneboom train stations between June and July of 2025. No arrests have been made in connection with these incidents.
“The task team established to investigate the murders is working around the clock following possible leads to trace the perpetrators. The team comprises of seasoned detectives, crime intelligence, forensic and crime scene experts,” she says.
The grim trend in Gauteng mirrors broader concerns about violent crime. In 2023, South Africa recorded over 20,000 murders, highlighting a persistent challenge for law enforcement agencies across the country (South African Police Service 2023/24 Crime Statistics).
