Fourteen people found dead in escalating violence in Mexico

Fourteen people were found dead Friday, June 26 in the state of Zacatecas in Mexico, the local government announced as violence escalates in the country.

Local authorities said they had launched an investigation to determine the causes of their deaths. The corpses were discovered in Fresnillo, one of the state’s largest cities in the center of the country. The bodies were covered with blankets on the side of a road, according to local media.

Attack on Mexico City security official

Mexican police have also announced that they have arrested around 20 suspects for the attack carried out on Friday 26 June in the heart of the capital against the security official in Mexico City.

Among those arrested is a man whom the security services consider to be one of the main managers of the group who led the attack.

The latter injured Mexico City chief of security Omar Garcia Harfuch, 38, who has been in post since October 2019, and killed two of the men who accompanied him and a passerby.
