The Quebec government has unveiled the names of the 22 members of the 2019 class of the Order of Excellence in Education. The professors of the University of Montreal Christian Bourdy, Monique Cormier and Louise Poirier appear as distinguished members. Professor Andrée Boucher, for her part, was awarded the title of Emeritus Member. The recipients will be decorated during an official ceremony to be held later this fall.
Established in 2018, the Order aims to recognize the achievements of people working in education and higher education in Quebec. Three ranks are awarded: member, distinguished member and emeritus member. From early childhood to university, the nominees promote the Quebec education system through their commitment, their innovations and the spinoffs they have had in their community and on the local, regional or national scenes. The awards are conferred by the Council of the Order of Excellence in Education of Quebec.

The endocrinologist Andree Boucher is a professor in the Department of Medicine. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer. During her career, she has held many management positions, including that of Vice-Dean for Pedagogy and Continuing Professional Development at the Faculty of Medicine at UdeM. She chaired the Central Skills Council of the Center for Applied Education in Health Sciences from 2006 to 2010 before becoming its director. She is now the medical director of the Interprofessional Thyroid Cancer Team at the Center hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal, which brings together specialists from several disciplines such as pathologists, nutritionists and psychologists in order to better help patients on a daily basis. suffering from this disease. Christian Bourdy is a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Specialized in psychotherapy, he is particularly interested in somatization and functional somatic syndromes. At the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur in Montreal, he implemented a specific approach program for hypochondriac patients with somatic delirium aimed at reducing emergency department visits and instead promoting meetings at the Family Medicine Unit. Vice-dean of undergraduate medical studies at UdeM from 2008 to 2014, he served as president of the Conference of vice-deans in undergraduate medical studies of Quebec faculties of medicine from 2010 to 2012 and, 2012 to 2013, he co-chaired the Conference of Associate Deans, Undergraduate Medical Education, Canadian Faculties of Medicine. He has participated in numerous workshops and scientific conferences addressing topics such as anxiety and depression, somatoform disorders or general practice supportive psychotherapy.

Monique Cormier is an ambassador of the French language. A professor in the Department of Linguistics and Translation, she is known for her work in terminology and metalexicography. She has held many management positions, including those of Vice-Dean for Faculty Affairs of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Director of the Office for the Valorization of the French Language and the Francophonie at UdeM, which she has held. created in 2014. As such, she has successfully completed several projects, including the eloquence competition Untie your tongue!, which was created in 2018. Until recently, she served as Associate Vice-Rector for French Language and Francophonie, a position designed to better situate UdeM in the French-speaking academic world. During this mandate, among other things, she set up the Observatoire de la Francophonie économique in partnership with the government of Quebec, the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie and the International Organization of La Francophonie. Internationally recognized, she has received numerous awards during her career, such as the Camille-Laurin award from the Office québécois de la langue française, the academic excellence award from the Canadian Association of University Teachers. and the Georges-Émile-Lapalme Prize, one of the Prix du Québec. Newly retired, Louise Poirier is a professor in the Department of Didactics at UdeM. In 2014, while she was dean of the Faculty of Education, she founded the center L’extension, which aims to support the development of the children of Parc-Extension and to offer educational services and health care. to families in this neighborhood. Having enjoyed great success, the center now welcomes dozens of trainees who offer free care in remedial education, dentistry and optometry. This project earned him one of the Rector’s Awards in 2014 in the Commitment category. A specialist in mathematics education, from 2018 to 2020, she held the position of deputy director of the “En avant math!” Project. of the Mathematical Research Center, intended to promote mathematics and increase numeracy. Focused on collaborative research in preschool and elementary school, she took part in the program “Music for children”, a musical training project for young children seeking to support the overall development of the child and promote academic success.
